In 2007 Martin Weller wrote a blog post called ‘The VLE/LMS is dead’. Weller asked if there are now enough off-the-shelf , Web 2.0 apps to build a VLE without recourse to institutional platforms such as Moodle and Blackboard.

In May 2010 our school was approached to create an academic-year-long distance CPD course for 20 English teachers in the Basque Course. They would spend one week with us in Dublin and then continue online. I looked at my options and decided to build the course VLE with Google Sites. The course is now over and academically and technically it has been very successful.

As part of my second year MSC work I was required to create a project. My project is a site showing how I created this Google VLE. I made the site itself using Google Sites, and you can visit is HERE
